Jud Farrell of the Nebraska City American Legion Seniors team started on the mound for the first time this season in a Tuesday night clash with Elmwood.

A three-run home run in the second inning gave the Elmwood American Legion Seniors a measure of hope, but Nebraska City extinguished that spark and went on to take a lightning-shortened 13-5 win Tuesday night at Clemmy Holmes Field.

Five walks, a single by John Russell and a double by Drew Ullsperger had Nebraska City ahead 5-1 after one inning of play.

Elmwood put runners on with a walk and a single in the second inning, then hit a two-out three-run home run and trailed by just one run after two complete frames.

A third inning run for Elmwood had the score tied after three innings.

Five walks, added to singles by D.J. DuVall and Travis Peterson, helped Nebraska City post seven runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game.

Peterson also reached on a hit by pitch in the fifth frame and scored the final run for Nebraska City.

Jud Farrell started the game on the mound for Nebraska City, struck out two and left with the game tied. It was his first appearance as a starter this year.

Logan Ehlers took the win for Nebraska City in relief.

He struck out three straight batters in the fourth inning, put out two more by way of strikeout in the fifth frame and again recorded three straight strikeouts in the sixth inning for a total of eight strikeouts.

The game was called after the top of the sixth inning due to lightning, but enough innings were played to make the decision official.

Nebraska City is scheduled to return to action Friday night at home for their regular season finale against Nehawka.
